I LOVE LOVE LOVE that there is such a push towards standards-based learning in elementary math classes!
Nothing breaks my heart more than a student that believes they “can’t”.
Growth mindset education, along with an emphasis on mastery vs. grades, is reshaping how children feel about themselves as learners.
Let’s help students see themselves as smart, capable, and as learners that are willing to take risks.
You can do it!
Standards-based learning and assessment doesn’t have to be hard!
There are simple ways to start rethinking about how you teach and assess your math students!
In a nutshell, standards-based grading replaces traditional grades by focusing on the OUTCOME of the entire learning process instead of the little stops along the way. Instead of assessing each practice opportunity, we look at the acquisition of new skills as a summative process. We’ll assess students when they’re ready, and we will determine if they have mastered a specific skill or standard.
How will you know they’re ready to be assessed?
How can students gain confidence in their math?
The quickest and easiest way to get started with standards-based grading is to have a set of quick checks that you can administer when the student is ready to show what they know. My quick checks cover a multitude of skills for upper elementary students.
They can be purchased by grade level, by grade level combos, or as a complete set, making them useful for a wide variety of student needs.
You can find 150 different upper elementary math skills QUICK CHECKS in this resource bundle! They can be administered with paper/pencil or shared digitally in Google Classroom.
Student Data Trackers and a Teacher Tracker is included with each set of Quick Checks.
