Use these 24 task cards to help your students explore cause and effect more deeply by generating cause and effect relationships. Each card relates an event in a single sentence and asks students to come up with both a possible cause and an effect for the event.
There are several ways to use these cards. You could use them orally with small groups and have students discuss the answers. They could also be used individually with students answering on notebook paper or on provided answer sheets. A great way to extend this activity is to challenge students to come up with more than one cause and effect for each card. This will encourage them to reach beyond the obvious and to think creatively. Because this is an open-ended activity, an answer key is not provided.
