Use these 126 lateral thinking cards to help your students gain fluency with creative thinking. Similar the board game, TriBonds, each card requires students to come up with one word that links the three words on each card together. For example, the words, “camp,” “place,” and “wild,” are linked by the word “fire.” These cards can be used by students from grade four all the way to adults (try them yourself!).
The cards are numbered from 1-126, but can easily be divided into four sets of 32 cards each. The answer sheet has room for 32 answers, so simply print as many as you need. The answer keys are also divided into sets of 32, so you can use just one set of cards along with the corresponding answer key. In addition, there are four cover cards and a set of blank cards which your students can use to make up their own!
There are many ways to use these cards. They would be great at a center or as part of a game. Another option is to use one card at a time with a small group or the entire class.
These cards will look best in color, but will also print out fine in grayscale. Simply print and cut along the guidelines. Laminate and use them again and again. Alternatively, you could print on cardstock. It works well to keep them in a baggie. Another option is to hole-punch a corner of each card and put them all on a ring.
