Description

This resource includes 40 cards to inspire dynamic discussions and insightful written reflections when comparing and contrasting a book to the movie version. Great for adding rigor and digging deeper for a more meaningful movie experience. The cards are split into three, color-coded parts:

โ€ข There are 8 โ€œBefore you watchโ€ cards to be used after reading the book, but before seeing the movie (red).

โ€ข Cards 9-32 are for use after students have both read the book and seen the movie. There are also 3 blank cards so you can write your own questions specific to the movie (blue).

โ€ข The final 8 โ€œWrite about itโ€ cards feature writing prompts to help students compare and contrast and dig deeper into the movie version of the story (green).

In addition, there is a โ€œTalk About Itโ€ poster with discussion sentence stems.

Suggestions for use:

Use the first 32 cards for discussion in pairs, small groups, or with your whole class. Although they were created as discussion prompts, they would also work well as writing prompts.

The โ€œWrite about itโ€ cards are perfect for journals, interactive notebooks, at a center, morning work, or homework.

If you are watching the movie in your classroom, consider pausing the movie as needed for discussion. It will also help if you have copies of the book available for reference.

Consider focusing on just one question and doing a โ€œClose Read/Close Watchโ€ in which you repeatedly read and watch the same scene in order to dig deeply into both the book and the movie.
