Theme is a challenging concept. While these cards can be used for individual practice (especially when using the multiple-choice format), you may want to consider using them with your entire class or a small group by reading each story aloud and working together to determine the theme.

Common Core Standards addressed in this set:

I used this with my tier III reading groups. Theme is always hard for them, but this was a great resource which made it much easier. They really liked the task cards which helped keep them engaged.

  2. Andreane P.

I love it has an activity to use at the beginning or end of the class to review concept and comeback to things they should already know and think they do, but that they do need a good review here and there. Can’t wait to use it more!

  3. Brianna H.

This was awesome! My students were confused on how to find the theme, what the theme was, or even what it meant. This was a great way to help in small groups, whole groups, and in centers. We were able to keep it when they needed it and put it up when they thought they had it.

  10. Kourtni S.

Great resource for small groups! It was very easy to use and my kiddos loved the activities!
