Use this set of 24 free reading strategy task cards to help your students practice these important skills. Students can answer on notebook paper and use the included recording sheet to keep track of the cards they have completed. Another option is to use these orally in small groups. A suggested answer key is included (answers for most of these cards are subjective, so the answer key is only offered as a guide). A challenge card that can be used with any other card in the set is also included to extend the learning.
The content for each card in this set is NEW, so if you own any of the other sets, you do not need to worry about repeating the same content. Only the design of the cards is the same. I created this set so that those who already have the other sets could use this set for extra reinforcement or assessment, and so that those who do not own them could give them a try for free.

Hereโs what teachers are saying:
โ๏ธ “I teach 5th grade reading in a Special Education setting. I am excited to work with my students with these cards. Some struggle with cognitive and some with working memory issues and having a short piece of text is great as it is less of a demand on them while building up their skill. I like that you didn’t choose too simple of a text as well; one of my students actually refuses to read if it is “dumbed down” as he calls it. Great blend of all of the things I need for my group. Thanks so much.” -Darlene D.
โ๏ธ “I am using the Summarize cards with high school students who have learning disabilities. They are excellent. I am eager to see how they respond to this set. Although the cards are designated for Grades 3-5, the topics and language are not too simple for my students. It would be great to have some of these, though, for older students. Thank you very much for all your work.” -Lexine M.
โ๏ธ “These task cards were fantastic to obtain an assessment, scaffolding, and stations. It includes teks that are taught throughout the year, so they have been extremely helpful! Thank you!” -Pricilla P.

This was an easy and super helpful activity to provide my 7th graders with practice on essential reading skills. Great for a review or introducing the topc.

Since making inference is a huge part of our state test, thank you for such a fun way to assess a skill without it seeming like it’s work. The students had fun with this and it was easy for me gage whether they could grasp the concept. I will be using this always!!!!

I use these during the regular school year and during summer school. This is a great center for my reading small groups. It is nice to be able to pull the cards that target the specific strategy I am working on.

Great resource to practice skills such as summarizing and paraphrasing, you can drop them off at the desks to keep it random, students can chose or it can be a center activity.

My experience is working with unique SPED populations and unique settings. My students have had negative learning experiences due to social, emotional, behavioral, or disabilities.
