Common Core Standards addressed in this set:
4.NF.1. Explain why a fraction a/b is equivalent to a fraction by using visual fraction models, with attention to how the number and size of the parts differ even though the two fractions themselves are the same size. Use this principle to recognize and generate equivalent fractions.
4.NF.2. Compare two fractions with different numerators and different denominators, e.g., by creating common denominators or numerators, or by comparing to a benchmark fraction such as 1/2. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with symbols >, =, or
The skills are also foundational for this Common Core Standard:
5.NF.1. Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators. For example, 2/3 + 5/4 = 8/12 + 15/12 = 23/12. (In general, a/b + c/d = (ad + bc)/bd.)

This is a skill that my students need a lot of practice with. This resource provides lots of different fractions for them to simplify.

This was such a great resource to practice simplifying fractions. My 5th graders definitely needed a little extra practice to apply to their new fraction standards.

Your resource is exactly the rigor we need to expose our students when learning the concepts. You have a fabulous resource. I hope you translate to Spanish.
Lisa Kelly –
Good review before we started fractions. I spent about ten minutes playing a game.

This was perfect to supplement with my curriculum. My students struggle with simplifying fractions, but this activity has plenty of problems for them to practice with. Thank you!

I loved the flexibility of these task cards. My students enjoyed working on easel for the very first time with this resource.

Good resource. I was hoping for some smaller fractions to simply for my students with learning disabilities but it did fit the need of the student. I just took out the ones that didn’t functionally apply.
