Description
These 52 Word-O-Rama (same game as Boggleโข) word work task cards and Google slides are not only fun, but will also help students improve letter pattern and phonics recognition skills, spelling, and vocabulary.
These cards/slides can be used in so many ways:
- At a literacy center
- For fast finishers
- With partners or small groups (use the same card, score only unique words)
- As morning work (display for the whole class)
- Or any time you have a few spare minutes
These word work games can help students improve their:
- Pattern Recognition: Finding words in the game requires students to identify patterns in the array of letters. This can help to improve their pattern recognition skills, which are essential in many areas of ELA, such as phonics and reading comprehension.
- Word Formation and Phonics: Word-O-Rama can help students understand how letters combine to form words, which is a basic aspect of phonics.
- Spelling: By searching for words among the jumble of letters, students practice their spelling skills. This can be particularly useful for learning to spell more complex words.
- Vocabulary Expansion: Playing Word O Rama, a game like Boogleโข, encourages students to think of as many words as possible, including those that they might not use regularly. This can help to expand their active vocabulary.
- Cognitive Flexibility and Speed: To be successful at this ELA game, students must be able to quickly shift their perspective to identify words in different directions (forwards, backwards, diagonally, etc.). This enhances cognitive flexibility and speed.
- Concentration and Focus: This game, like Boggleโข, requires sustained attention and concentration as students must look for words within a fixed amount of time.
- Creativity: The ELA game encourages students to think creatively and flexibly, as they must find as many different words as possible within the array.
- Problem-Solving: The game also involves strategic thinking and planning, as students must decide which words to go for based on their length and complexity. This can help improve problem-solving skills.

Great smart choice activity for students who finish their work early.
Jennifer T. –
This was a great addition to at home learning during the pandemic and now makes a great center assignment for in class learning! Thanks
Beth C. –
I used this with my students, they loved playing it and asked me if I could print out some for them to take home and play with their family. This was a great hit with them and I will be using it again this year.
Bryana W. –
Fun, engaging activity for my students to complete at their own pace!
Shauna Hogg –
This was used in my grade 4 classroom as bellwork. I would encourage them to get as many words as possible and try to beat their schore the next time. I would play too! 5 students would read aloud their answers even though everyone wanted to!
Bayleigh Eberhard –
I used this as a fun activity to do during my online office hours while we were doing remote learning. I had so many students join so that they could play along. We all loved it!
Desiree B. –
I used the resource during the last few weeks of school…I challenged the class to beat the teacher…so much fun! I will definitely use it again in the future.
Dorothy A. –
Great early finisher resource! They also had fun doing this as a whole class activity toward the end of the year, and each student wanted to be the one that found the longest word!
Megan C. –
My students love doing this activity and constantly ask to do more. I used it on Zoom for virtual learning last year and again with f2f students.

I project these onto a white board once a week as part of our puzzle/morning work. They have proved very popular. Thank you for such a fun but educational resource.
