This bundle includes this partner resource:
- Reading Response Choice Boards
NOTE: This resource uses American English and is not editable.
The Tic-Tac-Toe format offers several advantages:
-Nine options is enough so that students feel like they have some choice about what they write about without feeling overwhelmed with a huge list of possibilities.
-Because they choose three prompts in a row, students must make choices, weighing one prompt against another. A student may very well find that in order to choose the prompt he most wants, he must also complete a prompt that he will find more challenging. However, that more challenging prompt is likely to be met with less resistance than if there was no choice and no more motivating prompt to go with it.
-Since each student is only required to complete three of the nine prompts each week, you could use the remaining prompts for extra credit.
-More variety each week (than a single daily prompt you put on the board) means more interesting sharing if you have students read entries aloud, and more interesting reading for you when you check their entries!

This resource helps give my students a choice. They are reluctant writers and they prefer to choose what they write about and this resource gives them a choice, but it also gives the specific things that they can write about!

My students loved being able to choose their own topic. They got so much more written and included a lot more detail in their work.

Very helpful resource for when students are not engaging with our set journal topics of the day. They always have the option to use this instead.

This has transformed how my students feel about writing in a journal. Before this, I had them write on paper in a monthly journal. It was a lot to copy and I was definitely NOT getting quality work. Then I started using your prompts as a ‘Writing Worm-Up’ activity before any writing lesson. Oh my gosh, my kids couldn’t get enough. I can post it in Google Classroom, read their work easily, and respond. It has allowed me to get to know my kids on a whole new level. Plus, they are getting much needed typing practice and they are super engaged! Thank you!!!

Just what I was looking for. Great for daily quick writes.

Thank you so much…this was a great resource and super helpful!

Writing intervention has never been so easy!!! Students pick out a prompt and are given a sentencing goal and off they go!! Very engaging topics!!!

I bought this on a whim and it has become one of my favorite things from TPT. I am using this with my 7th graders and they appreciate having options to choose from every week. I also get lots of insight based on their responses (which I can weave into conversations to build relationships with them) and it’s great ‘low stakes’ writing practice where they can focus on using appropriate conventions.

I adore all of your resources, but this one especially a game changer in my room. My kids were able to choose their own topic and it was no prep for me! Win-win!

I use these for my 6th-grade reading class. Great resource. Just wish that they were ‘beefed up’ for 6th graders.
