I found my 6th grade students were really struggling in the area of identifying author’s purpose. After reteaching this concept, I used this activity with small groups in my class. It was perfect to solidify what they had been learning, and the students enjoyed the short texts that they had to read.
Madeline B. –
This was an AWESOME activity to get my students engaged. I placed the cards around the room so they were able to get up and move around. They were engaged and I think they were able to cultivate a deeper understanding for identifying Author’s Purpose.

Great practice for author’s purpose and explaining why the author chose that purpose. I used these independent practice, partner practice, and small group work.
