Hereโs what teachers are saying:
โ๏ธ “This is not the first set of task cards I have purchased from Rachel. They are all EXTREMELY well done. This was the perfect set to introduce and enforce the concepts of balancing equations to a VERY keen group of grade 2s. I also love that there are more challenging sets I was able to purchase, too. They are so easy to use virtually and I have found task cards are just a great way to practice, or even assess, concepts.” -Sarah K.
โ๏ธ “We had just started balancing equations when the closure started. I wanted to keep my students learning! I think doing one a day and showing it with manipulatives would have been more ideal, but it seemed to work to keep them moving forward.” -Laurie P.
โ๏ธ “Used this “write the room” style and it was a hit. Great extra practice that got them up and moving around. Such a good review session too.” -Liz T.

Common Core Standards:
Grade 1:
- CCSS.Math.Content.1.OA.B.4 Understand subtraction as an unknown-addend problem. For example, subtract 10 โ 8 by finding the number that makes 10 when added to 8.
- CCSS.Math.Content.1.OA.C.6 Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 โ 4 = 13 โ 3 โ 1 = 10 โ 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 โ 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
- CCSS.Math.Content.1.OA.D.7 Understand the meaning of the equal sign, and determine if equations involving addition and subtraction are true or false. For example, which of the following equations are true and which are false? 6 = 6, 7 = 8 โ 1, 5 + 2 = 2 + 5, 4 + 1 = 5 + 2.
Grade 2:
- CCSS.Math.Content.2.OA.B.2 Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies.2 By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.
Note: While I could not find any grade 3 standards to go with these cards, I still think they would be great for extra practice and reinforcement.

These were great for a game of Scoot! Kids really enjoyed it. Thanks!
Darice V. –
These cards were nice to use during tutoring to help students practice addition fluency. Students also begin working on multi-step problems.
Lizzie Buntin –
This was a GREAT purchase. My favorite part was that it had print and digital options, so I was able to use the printable task cards for stations, and the digital version for whole-group warm-ups. Very engaging.
Tania R. –
This resource was great to help students understand that each side of the equal sign must have and equivalent amount. This was a great center in my classroom.
B B –
Now that my kids Finally have a concrete understanding of numbers they are loving balancing the equations. They love going to this math station!
Cynthia C. –
Exactly what my students and I needed. Thank you so much!
Teresa Headtke –
Right now I’m using this as an enrichment resource for my students who are starting the year already knowing their facts. I’m also planning to use it later in the year as a new way to practice addition/subtraction facts for students who are still mastering their facts. Thanks for a great resource!
Stacy Newman –
We use these with manipulatives to solve each card in small groups for my lower kids. My medium level kids use them in Anchor Stations with manipulatives and with a partner. My higher level kids solve the cards and justify their answers to their partner.
Less On for Teachers –
A great resource. Exactly what I was looking for. Nice clear presentation of the resources. Easy for students to access. Great for my maths rotations. I have purchased a couple of these resources to differentiate. Thank you!
