This resource is a sample of our best-selling Real World Reading Passages and Questions!
NOTE: This resource uses American English and is not editable.
This resource is called “Real World Reading with a TWIST” because while it is a real life example of functional text, the content is funny, engaging, and will have your students wanting to read more!
This passage includes 4 worksheets. (Check out the preview for a closer look!)
The first two will help your students to fully explore the text and includes vocabulary, author’s purpose as well as other skills such as main idea, inference, prediction, point of view etc. Many of these questions require a constructed response and answers may vary by student.
The third page is an optional “Your Turn” activity in which students are given the opportunity to write a passage of their own in the same style as the one given. While this could be used with the whole class, it could also be used for early finishers and students who need a little more of a challenge.
The fourth page is an alternative to the first two. This page is easy to grade because all the answer responses are matching or multiple choice. Use this page if you have less time or need a simpler, more concrete activity. It also could be used for assessment. This page is easily identified by its lack of a border.
Here’s what teachers are saying about Real World Reading Passages and Questions:
✏️ “My students thought this resource was hilarious. One of the students who was not in the small group that was using the resource asked to join our group during his break time. It is really well written and a really fun way to work on functional text that my students aren’t usually very interested in.” -Striving for Student Success
✏️ “My students and I absolutely loved this resource! I used it as a comprehension skills review activity during the last week of school before Winter break, and we had lots of fun with it as a whole class! Thank you!” -Nikki B.
✏️ “Very engaging, my students were excited every time they saw this resource. This saved me so much time plus it covered the standards in an awesome way.” -Maria B.

A great tool to evaluate reading comprehension weekly. Our school must provide proof of learning at the end of every month. This saved me a lot of time.
