Using photos is a great way to introduce inference! This Inference resource includes 30 pictures used in two different ways.

NOTE: This resource uses American English and is not editable.
On the first 30 slides (green) students are asked to make observations about the picture first, and then to make an inference. These would be good to use when you are introducing the concept.
The pictures are repeated on slides 31-60 (blue), On these slides, students must first make an inference and then support that inference with observations from the picture. These will work well for reinforcement and for students who are just about ready to move on to making inferences with text.
Use whichever set you prefer or mix and match to differentiate as needed. A sample answer key is also included.

Since printing costs good $$$ I’ve utilized this in my weekly powerpoint activities. I added sentence frames to the blanks. It was super easy to embed into our day, and is a good partner talk activity for my students (speaking and listening is a big focus at my school). This gives a good contrast between things that are right there, and making an intellectual leap for a inference.
