This bundle includes this resource:

  • Figurative Language Worksheets

NOTE: This resource uses American English and is not editable.

Pattern poems are a great way to provide structure but still allow for plenty of creativity. While learning these patterns, your students will also be practicing syllables, parts of speech, and figurative language.

Perfect for National Poetry Month or use all year long – at a poetry center, as homework, with a sub, or anytime you need an open-ended, creative activity. Another idea is to use the patterns to write about a science or social studies content area, or perhaps about a book students are reading. Also great for holidays like Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Mother’s Day.

  1. Courtney Bazen

This product made a last minute sub spot easier for me to accomplish when the teacher put it in her lesson plan, but did not leave the work. I was able to quickly and efficiently do the job!

  2. Megan P.

I absolutely loved the poems! These were an amazing asset to have while my 6th graders were working on their poems!

  3. Dena Francis

I absolutely love this resource, but I was surprised by the edits/updates as it doesn’t resemble the original. Even the name has changed (I had to take a second look to even make sure I had downloaded the correct one). The margins are really tight when so when it is hole-punched, it cuts out some parts. Definitely something to do before it goes inside a duotang for safe keeping. Still a great resource, just not as aesthetically pleasing as the original.

  4. Jennifer Gentles

I began using this after our state writing test. The kids love taking a break from text based writing and enjoy learning about the different types of poems!

  5. Mallory D.

This product is fantastic for an elementary/middle years poetry unit. Each page clearly explained the style/aim of the poetic style and provided clear examples of how the poem should be structured. While I used the worksheets in booklet form for a poetry unit, their clarity and ease of use makes them perfect to integrate in other units or leave in a sub tub.

  6. Lindsay A.

I love the variety of poems to choose from for students to write. The explanations for the poems are clear and to the point. Very kid friendly and possible for them to do independently. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Marcie C.

I love using this with my classes! I made YouTube Videos when we were home during COVID and my students would write their poems and share still! This was a great way for them to learn different types of poems and come up with creative poems on their own.

  8. Bridget W.

My kids said that this was the best unit so far this year. They loved learning about poetry and using these resources.

  9. The Designated Classroom

I can honestly tell you that I really believe that my class of LEARNING LLAMAS loves this resource just about as much as I enjoyed watching them use it! This resource you created for other educators to use in their classroom, has really been a helpful tool that effectively helps me to better engage my eager learners! I really thank you for your time and creativity on this product. Your efforts will forever impact teachers and their students! If no onw else took the time to tell you….hear this from one educator to another YOU TOTALLY ROCK!!!!

  10. Tori W.

My students loved this resource. It made poetry seem much more managable for them. They even asked to write additional poems that I chose not to cover in my whole group lessons.
