Description

Your students will love these 32 open-ended sentence writing challenge task cards so much that they will not even realize that they are reviewing important grammar and vocabulary skills!

What’s included?

  • 32 Task Cards- Color
  • 32 Task Cards- Blackline
  • Google Slides Activity
  • ***Easel Activity (only available if you purchase on TPT)
  • Student Response Sheets
  • Challenge Cards
  • Sample Answer Keys

Each card features a different challenge. Your students will likely find some of the cards to be on the easier side while others may be more difficult. A sample answer key is also included (answers will vary by student) as well as a cover card, three bonus cards to extend the activity, and four different student answer sheets so you can pick the one that works best for you.

These would be perfect to use at a literacy center, for fast finishers, review, interactive notebooks, and test prep. It would also be fun to display a card for the whole class and then have a few students share their sentences. Please note that I have not listed Common Core standards for this product as many are touched on, but none are covered in depth.

These cards will look best in color, but will also print out fine in grayscale. Simply print and cut along the guidelines. Laminate and use them again and again. Alternatively, you could print on cardstock. It works well to keep them in a baggie. Another option is to hole-punch a corner of each card and put them all on a ring.

This year I will be perfecting a few things with certain students and taking others through sentence building. My EFLs are quite reckless when it comes to writing, usually, thanks to some awful habits learned in school. I do my best to fix these habits and improve their writing. Not an easy job! I have purchased a few sets of these sentence task cards to take them through a series of steps. I love that they’re not simple multiple choice. Students tend to guess through those and I always end up disappointed as a result. I wanted something more challenging and this set is certainly going to do it. Thank you!

This resource has been great to use during center time. My students enjoy the challenge.

Okay, so I use these in my daily 5 center for my advanced first graders. I take a snip of a task card and use parts of speech posters to help them reminder. My kids love these and it is so funny watching the wheel physically turn in their mind while they try to write the sentence.

I used this as homework with a student I am tutoring to help bring her up to grade level. It’s a much more fun way to practice grammar than regular worksheets.
