Use these 32 cards to help your students gain a better understanding of subject and predicate and to help craft complete sentences. The odd numbered cards provide a predicate and require students to complete the sentence by writing a subject. The even numbered cards provide a subject and require students to write a predicate. The cards can be used altogether, or can be split into odd or even sets if you want to focus on just one of these skills. Student answer sheets are provided for the whole set as well as both the sub sets. A sample answer key is also provided, but because this activity is open-ended, student answers will vary widely.
One suggestion for using these cards is to require students to use a minimum number of words in their answer so that you do not get one or two word responses. Encourage the use of adjectives, adverbs, and prepositional phrases. Three Challenge Cards are also provided. If you are also teaching simple subject and simple predicate, you will want to use Challenge Card #2.
These cards will look best in color, but will also print out fine in grayscale. Simply print and cut along the guidelines. Laminate and use them again and again. Alternatively, you could print on cardstock. It works well to keep them in a baggie. Another option is to hole-punch a corner of each card and put them all on a ring.

I posted the cards up around the room to get kids up and moving. Worked great for complete sentence writing, subject and predicate.
