Teacher Tip

Hereโ€™s what teachers are saying:

โœ๏ธ “Our curriculum doesn’t offer enough multi-step story problem practice, so this resource has been the perfect thing to use with them. Even my stronger math students have been challenged.” -Jennifer F.

โœ๏ธ “These are a great resource for such a hard concept. My students enjoy doing a few little cards a day. They prefer them to similar word problems written in their book… if they only knew they were practicing the same skills!! :)” -Megan B.

โœ๏ธ “Another fantastic product from Rachel Lynette. My students are in the habit of totally freezing up when the see a word problem so two step word problems have been especially difficult for them. I have added these cards to my centers and have presented them as a “math game” and my students have begun to take the time to read through the whole problem. Thanks!” -Natalie A.

  1. Yolanda Patino

Students used this resource in pairs. I printed each question(8.5×11) and glued it onto a large piece of construction paper. Student pairs solved one question together. Students showed their thinking and then had to defend/show proof of how they solved it. Another student pair, with the same question, shared/showed their proof. and the two pairs discussed different strategies.

  2. Teresa C.

This resource was very helpful in teaching specialized academic instruction. Students were engaged and welcoming to the activities presented.

  3. Gwynne F.

In one situation I used these as a center for pairs of students to work on together. Currently I am using them with small groups to solve together. I am going to try to put the calculation sheets into booklet form with a page for answers so that it’s all in one place. I appreciate all the thought that has gone into creating this resource.

  4. Camille M.

My students enjoyed the variety of questions and it was helpful in giving context with real-life problem examples.

  5. Nicole L.

I used this resource with a student I was tutoring who struggled with word problems. The student was so engaged and always asked when we could do more.

  6. Torie C.

Our 6th grade team used this for our RTI time and the students worked on breaking the problems down to figure out the steps and what was needing to be done to figure the problem out. We allowed them to all have a turn figuring a problem out on the board. It worked great for our lesson.

  7. A Fresh Breath

My students enjoyed using this activity to get extra practice solving story problems. I liked that I could cut them apart and use two or so a day for continued practice.

  8. Shanna L.

I love this resource! As an inclusion teacher a lot of my students have goals pertaining to word problems and it has always been a challenge for me to find resources. I have used this resource in small group and in 1:1 coaching.

  9. Tracey J.

Best real world problems I have come across! They are challenging but engaging for the students. I have used as homework and daily class warmup. Great resource!

  10. Ms Bondi Teaches 5th

I really liked these as a challenge for my students. I did a few at a time and made my kids focus on getting them all correct. They enjoyed these! Especially my kids who like a good challenge.
