Description

Paraphrasing is an essential skill for many types of writing, but a difficult one to master. This differentiation bundle is perfect for teachers who teach multiple grade levels or for 4th-grade teachers who have students that are not quite ready for the advanced cards yet and would benefit from some easier practice before moving on.

For younger or struggling students, start with Set 1, which features a different fun fact sentence for students to paraphrase. Paraphrasing a single sentence is a great way to introduce this challenging skill.

When your students are ready (or for older or more advanced learners), move on to Set 2, which features a different informational text (nonfiction) paragraph for students to paraphrase. These paragraphs are ideal for working on this skill because their shorter length will not overwhelm your students, but will still provide plenty of practice.

In addition to the task cards (2 sets of 32 cards each), you will also get challenge cards, 3 different student response options, sample answer keys, and a PARAphrase poster. In addition, all materials also come in blackline versions.

SET 1 & SET 2 PRINT VERSIONS BOTH INCLUDE:

  • Teacher Instructions
  • 32 Fun Facts Sentence Task Cards – Color
  • 32 Fun Facts Sentence Task Cards – Black Line
  • A cover card and 3 challenge cards to extend the learning
  • Make Your Own Sentence Task Cards Template in Color or Black Line
  • Sample answer keys (answers will vary)
  • 3 different student response sheet options
  • Printable Poster – Color

SET 1 & SET 2 DIGITAL VERSIONS BOTH INCLUDE:

  • 32 Fun Facts Sentence Digital Task Cards each with a text box for students to respond digitally.

After teaching paraphrasing my students needed some short practice opportunities. This activity was perfect for that and it required no prep on my part. I still use these one or twice a week in their independent activity work during our ELA block. They are all ready to use!
