Description
The ability to restate a question, in order to answer in a complete sentence is important not only in test-taking situations, but also for many types of writing. These 32 task cards (print or digital) can help your students learn this challenging skill. There are two types of questions in this set. Cards 1-20 feature one-part questions. Odd cards ask about the studentโs life while even cards ask about text/media and the outside world. Each question includes some context to add to the challenge. Cards 21-32 are two-part questions. Students will restate the first question, add the word, โbecauseโ and then answer the second question in the same sentence.
The questions themselves are all easy to answer since it is not the content, but the putting the question in the answer (PQA) format that is being practiced. You may even want to make the activity more fun by encouraging your students to give silly answers.

My students needed a little more practice with the R in RACE and this was the perfect source. I ended up not printing the cards but rather projected them on the front screen and they wrote their sentences on their desks with a dry erase marker. It was quick to walk around the room to give them feedback, have a few volunteers read theirs aloud, then move on to the next topic. We only used about a third of the cards because there are so many, so now we can review again next time they need to write or to prepare for a standardized test. My only suggestion would be to include the teacher examples at the beginning of the digital cards. I ended up taking screen shots and adding two slides to the beginning so it was all in one place.

My students loved using this resource as they were able to relate and get excited about the different questions. It was great practice for restating and was an excellent connection to the writing work we were doing. Great resource for students who struggle with writing and restating the question!

My students loved this resource. They were struggling to restate, and this really helped. I used the cards like a spelling bee. If they restated correctly, they stayed in, if not, they had to sit down. They really enjoyed it.

While I was out with COVID I provided this assignment of which I expected to be review. Many of my students demonstrated they were behind in this skill. Knowing this allowed me to enhance the loss of learning upon my return.

This was a great resource! My students really struggle with restating, so it was nice to practice with questions what they could relate to.
