The bright colors and fun pictures added to the creativity, that will make students love these task cards!

Each of these 32 cards requires students to follow instructions to improve a simple sentence by adding and/or changing words. Students will not only learn to make more interesting and elaborate sentences, but will also be reinforcing parts of speech skills. For younger grades, use the cards just as they are. For fourth grade and above, consider adding Challenge Card 1, which will require students to add a prepositional phrase to each of their answers. Two other challenge cards are also included to extend the activity.

These task cards are perfect for test prep and will work well at literacy centers, stations, for partner work, or with the whole class using a game like Scoot. Student answer sheets are provided as well as answer keys. There are also Challenge Cards that can be used with any other card to extend the activity. In addition, a student handout and three posters are included as reminders for your students.

Print this set out in color. For black and white printing, please use the included black line version. If you are printing in black and white, consider printing on colored paper. Simply print and cut along the guidelines. Laminate and use them again and again. Alternatively, you could print on cardstock. It works well to keep them in a baggie. Another option is to hole-punch a corner of each card and

put them all on a ring.

I use these as a time filler when we have a extra few minutes. I put it up on our view board and give the students a chance to write the new sentence and then we share out. They love this.
