The first set is for younger or struggling students. The figure of speech is underlined on each card, making it easier to identify. The second set features the same passages, but the figures of speech are not underlined, making the activity much more challenging for older or advanced students.

In addition, there are seven cards with definitions and examples for each type of figurative language that can be used as reference. 41 reviews for Figurative Language Task Cards Multiple Choice Print & Digital Google Slides

  1. Renee D.

This is a great resource for the classroom and I highly recommend. I used this in a 7th grade ELA class that has ELL / IEP / 504 / Gifted students in it and the activity kept everyone engaged. The skills reviewed in this activity aligned with our state standards and overall I feel like my students really enjoyed what I took from this resource. This resource helped supplement the skills / standards covered in our district required curriculum and I would recommend! I plan on continuing to use this in the future.

  2. Amanda T.

This is a great resource. I really enjoy using it with my students!

  3. Tammy L.

I used this as an independent station during my figurative language unit. Great resource – my students loved the task cards. Easy to use!

  4. Heather B.

These task cards were just what my students needed as we talked about identifying figurative language in poetry. I used them as group work so the students could discuss the different cards their groups were assigned.

  5. Brianna P.

Such a great resource! My students loved doing these! Thank you!

  6. Sarah C.

This was a great way for students to practice figurative language during Reading workshop. The students were engaged and were able to work in pairs to figure out which type of figurative language was used. They were able to self-check their answers once completed.

  7. Heather R.

LOVE This! I used this during STAAR review for warms and exit tickets. Amazing RESOURCE! I plan to buy more and use them throughout the year next year!

  8. Catherine P.

We used this a few days into the unit. It was awesome! The kids love moving around and I could use the cards that underlined the example as we were still in the learning phase. I was able to use the resource again when the class got into the review phase, by choosing the cards that did not identify the example for them. It made them have to stop, read, identify and then categorize the answer. Thanks for such a great resource!!

  9. Jessica P.

This was great to use as data collection for figurative language! The examples on the task cards are very easy to read and easy to manipulate.

  10. Janneth Martinez

I added these cards to a generic game board we use in class and made it a reading center for my kids to use. This is also a choice for ‘What can I do when I am done?’ Kids practice and are engaged in their practice. Of course I had already taught this skill prior to including it in my game.
