The cards are presented in two formats to help you meet the needs & differentiate for all of your students. (Please note that the passages are the same on both sets.) The first set is for younger or struggling students. The figure of speech is underlined on each card, making it easier to identify. The second set features the same passages, but the figures of speech are not underlined, making the activity much more challenging for older or advanced students.

In addition, there are seven cards with definitions and examples for each type of figurative language that can be used as reference. Two challenge cards, a cover card, an answer sheet and an answer key are also included. Blackline versions of the cards are also provided for printing on colored paper.

A great resource for the review before the test! So easy to identify where my students needed more support.

  6. Kelly C.

I use these for practice and review of figurative language in my resource class. I have them printed out and give students 1-4 to answer for a quick practice or assessment. This way I am able to support the high school ELA classes (9-12), work on other IEP goals, and all for some homework help. I have also used these in a self-contained English setting for 9th grade.

  7. Eye Love Paisley

My 4th graders are using these cards during stations to review figurative language. I loved the included examples, as I printed those for them to reference. They are easy to print and use quickly and are engaging for the students. Thank you!
